Train Kept A-Rollin’: The Continued Growth of the Craft Beer Market
I examined the pros and cons of an increasingly crowded craft beer industry in the June/July 2013 issue of Philly Beer Scene. I spoke with some of the best brewers, bar owners, and distributors in the city to understand the different opinions. Even in a crowded market, there’s still quality products to discover.
Dr. Pat and the Quest for the Bygone Beers
My first Philly Beer Scene feature article appeared in the February/March 2013 issue. It spotlighted archaeologist Patrick McGovern, PhD and his work with Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Inc. Together they collaborate in recreating beers for the Ancient Ales series. This is one of my favorite articles I’ve written. The magazine’s layout design and photography for this story is amazing!
Factually Brewed
I read Philadelphia Beer: A Heady History of Brewing in the Cradle of Liberty by Rich Wagner for the August/September 2012 issue of Philly Beer Scene. If there’s one thing beer drinkers and amateur and professional historians love, it’s trivia. Wagner offers plenty in his account of Philly’s brewing history.
Bending Flavors
My first professional writing focused on The Bent Spoon, an “artisan ice cream and good ingredient bakery” in Princeton, NJ. I interviewed owners Gabrielle Carbone and Matthew Errico about the beer-flavored ice cream. From what I sampled, it’s delicious! This piece appeared in the June/July 2012 issue of Philly Beer Scene.
